How To Make Work More Enjoyable
3 min readTired of waking up every day and leading a monotonous life? Bored and tired of your work? Don’t worry; you’re not the only one. It’s human to grow weary of doing the same thing every day. We get into a rut after some time, and that’s quite natural. Unfortunately, in this competitive world, we can’t afford to quit our job. That is why we have come up with a few ideas to get you back on track.
Your workplace isn’t as boring as it looks. You can try simple things to implement to become more positive. There is so much you can do to keep things lively by making minor changes, rather than just staring at your computer screen the whole day. The first thing you can do is test yourself. If you usually complete a task in half an hour, try to beat that time without compromising on the quality of your work. Try timing yourself and make it a competition against yourself. This will not only improve your efficiency but will also make it more interesting for you. Try something new every day, and this will make you feel productive. Try taking on new responsibilities that can help you progress and develop new capabilities, such as developing leadership skills.
Take breaks. When you finish your work early, you get more time for yourself. Utilise this time to give yourself the breather that you deserve. Go out and enjoy a little sunshine, walk around for a while, and spend a little time for yourself. This will have an unbelievable impact on your productivity as well as your mental health. This way, work will not be so repetitive.
Engage yourself in passion projects. Everyone has their own set of interests. Identify yours and work on them, separately from your full-time work. Take up a part-time passion project and work on it. This will boost up your enthusiasm as well as your willingness to come back to your office the next morning. Working on your passion projects can also look good on your portfolio as well.
Create a happier work environment by interacting more with your colleagues. This will make your workplace more dynamic and engaging, and you will not feel bored with having to sit in a room for 10 hours in a row. Things will be merrier and jolly when you have a set of people making the work more fun. Getting along with your colleagues and communicating will create a high-performance team.
Keep changing the planning of your work area. Add a few of your best-framed photos of friends or family, hang some of your favourite quotes and posters, and keep changing the ambience of your work area occasionally so that you don’t get tired of seeing the same things every day. You can even keep a succulent plant on your table, keep changing your pen stand, or even stick some of the magnets that you got from different destinations in your cubicle. This will make you feel more at home and give you the feeling that you are where you belong.
If your workplace is lenient, you can even swap your chair with an exercise ball. Nothing will make your workplace more active, and it has additional perks, too- sitting on an exercise ball has amazing health benefits as compared to sitting in a normal chair for long hours.
You can always try doing some new things, like changing your workplace wardrobe, planning work outings, tracking your productivity every day or engaging in healthy workplace competition with your colleagues.
When you start incorporating more changes into your lifestyle, the office will not be the same dreaded place that makes you want to turn back home on a Monday morning. Reward yourself for work you complete, throw a treat to your colleagues for every special occasion and make the workplace environment more fun and entertaining. You are stuck in this cubicle anyway, so you might as well enjoy the time you spend in there.
